Title and summary

Noisy Jelly Workshop

Noisy Jelly is a interactive game in which people can make their own electronic music instruments out of jelly. Everyone knows that Jell-o jiggles, but now we know that with the right technique and electronics, we can manipulate the movement and shape of jelly with finger contact and audio signals.

Why have conventional jelly when you can have jelly that makes music? Raphael Pluvinage and Marianne Cauvard, final year students at French design school ENSCI Les Ateliers, had that unusual thought, and teamed a jelly-making process with Arduino add Max/msp, to create a game where the player has to cook and shape his own musical material based on colored jelly. The game board acts as a sensor, and the variations of the jellies' shapes and their salt concentration, the distance and the strength of the finger contact are detected and transformed into an audio signal.
